I feel bad about crediting this quote to JP Morgan when it may in fact have been Thomas Carlyle or someone else entirely who said it. The Internet is undecided on that score, which is ironic considering that the nature of the quote is about seeing clearly.
Regardless of the person from whose lips they sprung, the words are very applicable to my current state of affairs vis a vis language learning – a one-foot-in-front-of-the-other pursuit if ever there was one – and making future plans in general. I increasingly have no idea what life will look like three months from now, let alone three years. Enlightenment seems to me to be all about embracing the present moment and accepting that we can’t foretell what comes next. (I am very, very far from enlightenment.)
